What the Extended Look Actually Confirmed
You'll play as Jason, Lucia, or both — with seamless switching. Jason Duval is an ex-military drug runner; Lucia Caminos was recently released from prison. The footage shows missions playable from either character's perspective, and Rockstar confirmed you can switch between them mid-story rather than the game locking you to one at a time.
Your choices actually affect relationships. Rockstar was explicit that player decisions carry weight beyond the immediate mission — how you treat other characters shapes how the story unfolds around Jason and Lucia specifically.
A health and fitness system is back, functioning similarly to San Andreas — eating and exercise visibly affect your character's body, not just a hidden stat.
NPCs react to context, not just your actions. Walking around with a weapon drawn gets a different reaction depending on where you are and who's watching — Rockstar specifically called out more diverse, more reactive NPC behavior than any previous entry in the series.
There's in-game social media. Because apparently even Vice City's criminals can't put their phones down.
The map is enormous. Rob Nelson, co-studio head at Rockstar North, compared its scale directly to Red Dead Redemption 2 — "there is a whole other world in Red Dead Redemption 2, yes, GTA 6 is very much like that." Vice City itself is reportedly more than twice the size of GTA V's Los Santos.
The Leak Drama That Forced Rockstar's Hand
This reveal didn't happen in a vacuum. In the week leading up to it, a hacker group calling itself CyberLeek posted a string of unauthorized gameplay clips claiming to be from a playable build of the game. The videos kept getting pulled and kept reappearing on new accounts, and the group framed itself as acting on behalf of frustrated fans, specifically criticizing Rockstar's choice to release the game without a physical disc option.
Whether or not the timing was a direct response, Rockstar's official reveal landed right in the middle of that mess — and judging by Downdetector logging over 3,100 Netflix error reports in the lead-up to the premiere, plenty of people showed up expecting exactly this.
When You Can Actually Play It
